Bean rust resistance in the Guatemalan climbing bean germplasm collection

چکیده
Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is the main source of protein, fiber, and iron for Guatemala's poorest households. Bean rust (caused by Uromyces appendiculatus (Pers) Unger) can reduce seed yield up to 100%. There limited information about U. virulence diversity in Guatemala, especially mid-altitude highlands. To address this limitation, 2015, 23 samples were collected Western Guatemalan Highlands characterized as races 63-1 31-1 using differential set. These two races, along with newer race 20-3 found North Dakota, used evaluate reaction 372 climbing accessions from Guatemala. Most resistant: 82% 63-1, 86% 31-1, 90% 20-3. Based on a genome-wide association study (GWAS) 78,754 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), regions Pv02 (38.13–38.22 Mb) Pv04 (379 kb) associated resistance 20-3; Pv10 (10.71–10.68 11.09 (1.42 63-1; (39.28 (35.92 31-1. The Pv04: 379 kb, 1.42 Mb 39.28 felt close genetic block B-190, containing Ur-5 Ur-14. Moreover, previously unreported factors located Mb), observed population may prove useful improvement. Using these rust-resistant parents crop improvement program will help maintain where pathogen present.

120 Journal of Plant Registrations, Vol 2, No. 2, May 2008 Drought stress reduces dry bean seed yield in most production regions worldwide (White and Singh, 1991). The release of pinto bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) germplasm CO46348 (Reg. No. GP-275, PI 651500) will provide plant breeders with drought-tolerant, pinto bean germplasm that takes advantage of a full growing season (95–98 d) and has ...

متن کاملSoybean rust resistance sources and inheritance in the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.).
Soybean rust (SBR), caused by the fungus Phakopsora pachyrhizi, has been reported in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars and elite lines that were infected under controlled and natural field conditions in South Africa, the United States, Argentina, and Brazil. Although SBR is currently not a top priority problem for the common bean crop, many bean breeders are concerned about this dis...
متن کاملFine mapping of Ur - 3 , a historically important rust resistance locus in 1 common bean
63 Bean rust is a devastating disease of common bean in the Americas and Africa. The historically 64 important Ur-3 gene confers resistance to many races of the highly variable bean rust pathogen 65 that overcome all known rust resistance genes. Existing molecular markers tagging Ur-3 for use 66 in marker assisted selection produce false results. We described here the fine mapping of Ur-3 67 fo...
متن کاملGenetic Architecture of Resistance to Stripe Rust in a Global Winter Wheat Germplasm Collection
Virulence shifts in populations of Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst), the causal pathogen of wheat stripe rust, are a major challenge to resistance breeding. The majority of known resistance genes are already ineffective against current races of Pst, necessitating the identification and introgression of new sources of resistance. Germplasm core collections that reflect the range of gene...
